Dawn Mellor

  • Time in relation to an object: Michael Jackson and other men (Book)

Teenage years 1980’s (13-16):

  • Magazines were the only source of info/reference for the drawings.
  • Holding onto the connection (Can’t play YouTube on repeat!).
  • Race riots across the country - music videos such as ‘Thriller’ were used as scapegoats for the violence.
  • Trying to understand what was going on - political ignorance? Upon reflection looks like an american celebrity obsession.

Adult Years:

  • Constructed personas (120 people)- endless transformation of yourself into various characters.
  • Derail good/bad misconceptions (Political: Right wing and left wing).

Time - Introduction

  • Michael Gladwell - You need 10,000 hours of practice to become a master of anything and everything.

  • It is entirely normal to feel despair.
  • If you make an exhibition of your failures you will probably pass.
  • Being nostalgic is a disease.
  • The future is on hold, we are getting the 20th century repackaged in HD. It is not progress!
  • Thinking ahead not behind.

Painting Time - Gary Simmonds
  • Jane Harris - Recognising the amount of work that goes into someones work.
  • “Slow, Fast, Modern” - Neon Dayglow paint
